Brighton Goods Bridge

Brighton Goods Bridge is a five span rail over rail bridge located in Battersea, London reconstructed to replace the existing 100 year old bridge.

BAM Nuttall appointed Kilnbridge as a specialist subcontractor to undertake the complex temporary works design and construction of the concrete structure. The project involved the reconstruction of the entire bridge structure whilst the existing bridge remained fully operational, therefore minimising disturbance to both passenger and freight services.

The project was the winner of the British Construction Industry Awards 2012 for Civil Engineering Project of the Year (£3m to £50m)

The solution involved encapsulating the existing masonry piers with new reinforced concrete walls and constructing a new reinforced concrete bridge deck from beneath the existing bridge. This enabled the old steel bridge to be removed over a short blockade leaving the new bridge in place for the installation of the permanent way works.
