Concrete cutting and controlled demolition

Diamond Core drilling involves the use of non-percussive, diamond-tipped cores to form clean, precise, circular penetrations. Diameters vary from 8mm to 1m and depths of 6m can be achieved as standard.

Utilisation.

  • Isolating deep foundations or structures.

Concrete Bursting is a quiet and efficient method to weaken and remove concrete. Burster heads are inserted into pre-drilled holes and a hydraulic force applied to introduce controlled cracks in the concrete.

Utilisation

  • Pre weakening of concrete to facilitate removal.
  • In noise and vibration sensitive environments.

  • Reduced noise, dust, vibration and risk of HAVS.

Floor Saws are either electrically or diesel powered, self propelled machines used in the cutting of concrete slabs. Depths of 650mm can be achieved as standard.

  • Forming openings in slabs.
  • Forming drainage runs.

Track Sawing is a method of cutting that utilises a diamond blade mounted on a track which is fixed to the structure being cut. The track is mounted to vertical, horizontal or sloping structure and results in precise and accurate cuts being achieved. Depths of up to 1m are achievable.

Utilisation

  • Forming or altering existing door and window openings and other apertures.
  • Isolating structures.
  • Inverted cutting.

Track Sawing

The use of a diamond tipped crown to achieve depths of up to 40m (depth based on our experience, this was the depth of the pile). Barrel is continually added to the crown until the depth is achieved then extracted as one unit. Once extracted, a visual inspection and test can be carried out on the core to determine its makeup and integrity.

Utilisation

  • To determine the depths of existing structures such as foundations and dock walls, where the limits of conventional diamond drilling are exceeded.
  • Piles – to extract core samples from piles, (either historic or new to examine their integrity and strength.
  • Bridge strengthening/pattress plate installation.

Benefits

  • Core can be extracted and logged to give a detailed profile of the structural integrity.

Demolition robots are high-performance machines which are electrically powered, eliminating emissions and reducing our carbon footprint. The remote operation features of the machine make them ideal for use in a range of hazardous, challenging and confined environments. A range of attachments including breakers, crushers and shears allows the robot to undertake a wide range of demolition activities.

Wire Sawing

Wire Sawing is primarily used to cut through large structures. Diamond wire is threaded through a series of pulleys and wrapped around the structure to be cut. Cutting can be completed either wet or dry.

Utilisation

  • Cutting of concrete, steel or both.
  • Removal of crane bases.
  • Bridges or jetties - columns, piers and deck removal.
  • Pile and diaphragm wall reduction.
  • Decomissioning of large complex structures such as submarines, ships, oil rigs, aircraft and turbines.

  • Similar to conventional wire sawing but utilised where access to both sides of the structure is not available.

Plunge Sawing

Utilisation

  • Isolating deep ground bearing structures.
  • Crane base removal.

Hand Sawing equipment includes chain sawing and ring sawing through a variety of materials including brickwork, blockwork and reinforced concrete. The ring saw uses an off centred blade, thus increasing the depth of cut achievable.

Utilisation

  • Ideal for cutting door and window openings.

  • Lightweight and portable.
  • The profile of the blade makes it ideal for forming square corners.
  • Cuts up to 700mm deep.

This involves the use of grinding and planing equipment to remove or alter the existing surface finish. Equipment varies from small handheld grinders to large self-propelled 3-phase machines.

Utilisation

  • Reducing high spots.
  • Planing of defective surfaces.
  • Providing a key for subsequent finishes.
  • Removal of paint or resin.

Hydrodemolition uses high pressure water to remove concrete and other materials. Robotic units are utilised for larger areas such as bridge decks. Hand lances are used for smaller, restricted areas. Typical uses of hydrodemolition include exposal of reinforcement for repairs or alterations, exposal of couplers and surface preparation.

The benefits associated with hydrodemolition include achieving tight tolerances, maintaining the integrity of steel and remaining concrete and minimal vibration transfer.
