Kilnbridge were awarded the first of a phased renewal of the current council housing stock within the London Borough of Havering. Napier and New Plymouth House were two 13-storey tower blocks surrounded by a primary school and existing council housing estate.
Kilnbridge’s initial activities included the setting up of site welfare and accommodation, design and erection of perimeter hoarding, construction of a new cycle route and removal of all plasterboard walls and ceilings. Kilnbridge were then responsible for the pre-demolition and refurbishment asbestos survey before commencing the removal of all non-licensed and licensed asbestos and soft strip of both tower blocks.
Kilnbridge then led the design and erection of the encapsulating scaffold to both towers and proceeded with the demolition of both towers down to their lowest slab using a top-down method. The foundations were then removed and arisings crushed on site and used as back fill and the construction of the designed pile mat. Kilnbridge also installed new storm water and sewage pipework as part of the works.
