HS2 Euston Station

Location: Euston, London
Value: £12.5m
Main Contractor: Skanska
Client: Network Rail
Sector: Rail

Scope of works

Kilnbridge was contracted to construct the New Barnby Street Substation. The scope included excavation, blinding, pile break down and the waterproofing of buried structures, backfill around these structures and FRC works, including all necessary temporary works.

Kilnbridge also designed, manufactured, supplied and installed the new Maintenance Delivery Unit (MDU) on the parcel deck in Euston as well as at the new Compactor Building. All the structural steelwork, cladding and roofing together with the new access ramps and stairs were supplied and installed by Kilnbridge.

Other works included the design, manufacture and installation of the strengthening works and the new façade steelwork that formed the cutline along platform 16/17. This included carrying out of extensive surveys on the existing structural steelwork to complete the design. Using 3D modelling allowed the strengthening works to be completed whilst maintaining a number of live operational facilities.

Kilnbridge also worked on the updated concourse pedestrian flow strategy, with new mezzanine structures, security enclosures together with a new structural steel ramp to platforms 1 and 2.

Challenges / Achievements

  • All works were planned and executed to limit disruption to the live station environment and Eversholt Street
  • The works involved a collaborative approach between all stakeholders including Network Rail and LUL interface
