HS2 Euston Station – MDU and Compactor

Location: Camden, London
Value: £4.5m
Main Contractor: Skanska
Client: Network Rail
Sector: Rail

Scope of works

Kilnbridge were contracted by Skanska to design, manufacture, supply and install two new buildings: the new Maintenance Delivery Unit (MDU) on the parcel deck in Euston and the new Compactor Building. The new MDU building was built to replace the existing one which stood on the proposed HS2 route.

All the structural steelwork, cladding and roofing together with the new access ramps and stairs were supplied and installed by Kilnbridge.

The Kilnbridge scope included:

  • Structural steel frame within the parcel deck (upper floor)
  • SFS (structural framing system) cladding doors, windows, roofing and firestopping
  • Ramp widening along platforms 2 and 3
  • Compactor relocation including structural steel and cladding, roofing, doors, roller shutters and louvre bin stores along with associated blockwork structures.

Challenges / Achievements

  • All works were planned and executed to limit disruption to the live station environment and Eversholt Street
  • The works involved a collaborative approach between all stakeholders including Network Rail and LUL interface.
