Scope of works

The overall project comprised the construction of a Roll On/Roll Off berth for the safe berthing of vessels, as part of a £12m development to accommodate the ‘Stena Discovery’ fast ferry.

Kilnbridge were contracted to construct the new berthing facility over installed piles. The works included the design and installation of temporary works to piles to support the steel girder plate formwork and form reinforced concrete beams between piles. Precast slabs were used as permanent formwork and to provide a working deck for the installation of reinforcement for the cast in-situ slab. Heavy lifting plant as well as access pontoons and crane barges where used.

The new berth was approximately 10m wide, provide dual lane vehicle access and approximately 110m in length.

Challenges / Achievements

  • All lifting plant and cranes were supplied by Kilnbridge
  • Achieved stringent quality requirements in a marine environment
