Kilnbridge was appointed by Canary Wharf Contractors to deliver the builders’ work package for 20 Fenchurch Street, the landmark 37-storey commercial tower developed by a joint venture between Canary Wharf Group and Land Securities. Commonly known as the “Walkie Talkie” due to its distinctive shape, the building presented the logistical challenges typical of a major high-rise project in the heart of the City of London.
Kilnbridge’s scope encompassed a broad range of construction and ancillary works, including secondary concrete works, structural screeds, blockwork and brickwork, carpentry, shaft walls, doors, diamond drilling, concrete cutting and removal works, as well as hard landscaping and external works. The package primarily focused on delivering scope-gap and interface works across the project, ensuring seamless integration between trades and maintaining programme progress. Key elements included reinforced concrete works to the rooftop garden terrace, the construction of floating slabs for heavy plant equipment on the upper floors, and the installation of external reinforced concrete stairs, security bollards and planters.
