King’s Cross Station Redevelopment

King’s Cross Package 4 is part of a wider development of the area worth a total value of £28.3m. The project consists of the construction of a 10m-deep basement and access ramp to house a plant room and service yard which will facilitate the main station. Kilnbridge were contracted to complete fire protection works at the station.

The new service yard will accommodate services such as waste disposal and deliveries that are currently undertaken in the operating station. Package 6 includes the refurbishment of the Grade I-listed Western Range Building and erection of the new Western Range Concourse. Kilnbridge’s scope of fire protection works included:

Package 4

• Double-sided fire stopping to service penetrations through fire walls.
• Soffit insulation on the soffit of the goods ramp and the goods yard.

Package 6 – Basement and sub-basement

• The installation of fire encasement to beams, columns and wind posts.
• The application of acoustic sealing and intumescent paint to fire protection columns.
• The installation of fire penetration seals and fire stopping.

Package 6 – EDF Room

• The installation of an impact board constructed in two layers, one at the bottom and one at the top of metal framework formed to make the ceiling compartmentation from services running below the soffit line, including rockwool infill panels between the boarding.
