Crossrail C512 – Whitechapel

Scope of works

The new Whitechapel Crossrail Station redevelopment works provide an easy step-free interchange between the Crossrail, Hammersmith and City, District and Overground lines.

Kilnbridge were appointed to design, supply and install the external envelopes for the Group Station Manager’s (GSM) Building and the Durward Street and Cambridge Heath shafts. The works also included new canopies to the Hammersmith & City Line platforms and cladding works to the upper concourse.

The scope of works also included installing Kawneer curtain walling with glazing infill, a new GSM upstand with PPC aluminium copings and stainless steel balustrades, Hunter Douglas zinc cladding and Schueco windows. Kilnbridge also oversaw the installation of the Rigidal Ziplok standing seam roofing to the platform canopies, proteus HR shot peened stainless steel rainscreen and support system, aluminium and stainless steel louvres and stainless steel mesh panels with supports.

Challenges / Achievements

• All works undertaken in a live rail environment with both underground and overground services running
• Works were completed early allowing Crossrail to start their familiarisation process 5 weeks ahead of schedule
• Kilnbridge developed concept drawings into buildable work in collaboration with the client and supply chain, using BIM to reduce inefficiency and save time
