Scope of works

K1 & K2 Floating Pavilions are two reinforced concrete marine structures which sit in Wood Wharf dock, to the east of Canary Wharf Station in Wood Wharf.

Kilnbridge’s scope included:

  • Manufacture and mobilisation of two 38m x 17m x 4.5m high reinforced concrete floating hulls
  • Fabrication and installation of the associated structural steel link struts, connecting link bridge and perimeter walkway
  • Mobilisation of the 1,000 tonne hulls into position within King George V Dock by using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) in conjunction with a semi-submersible barge
  • Installation of the associated steelwork and supply and installation of two connecting pontoons

Challenges / Achievements

  • Developing an innovative methodology which de-risked the construction and led to an overall saving of over 12 weeks on a 41-week programme
  • Execution of the marine grade specification to ensure the hulls could be floated as designed
