Our scope varies between the shafts but generally includes structural steelwork design, reinforcement detailing, temporary works design and the construction of reinforced concrete cores within the shafts and above ground. We are also involved with RC and composite slabs and steel-framed infill structures and, in the case of Eleanor Street, a steel-framed head house building. Also included in the works are adit collars, diaphragm wall cutting, shaft capping beams and associated civils works, drainage and waterproofing.

We are also working on complex-shaped high specification RC walls and structures enhancing the head house buildings, all designed to 120 years’ design life.

All shaft works are either within controlled or confined space with strict management of entry protocols and a high level of health and safety planning and controls.

The shafts are all part of the wider delivery and implementation of the Crossrail key stages and are critical to achieving the overall integration of the system and handover for dynamic testing, meaning they are highly important sections of the overall Crossrail programme.
