Thameslink programme – KO2

Carillion were appointed to construct 3 new 12 car electrified sidings to Network Rail’s Depot in Selhurst. Part of the scheme was to design and construct 4 canopies to provide protection from the elements for drivers and to carry all the required services such as the lighting, water and sand delivery systems.

Kilnbridge were commissioned to develop a complete design that would fulfil the requirements of both Network Rail and British standards and also accommodate the live and variable loads of the sand delivery systems.

Kilnbridge were engaged at the Grip 4 design stage. This provided an opportunity for us to work closely with the clients engineers to develop and detail a modular design, which allowed the majority of the assembly to take place at ground level.

A bespoke lifting apparatus was used to lift large sections of the canopy into place while maintaining structure rigidity. This method of erection and strict programming of short line blockades allowed the works to be undertaken with no risk to the adjacent operational rail.
